Instructions and Files

FDM

PRINTERS

FDM Printing is cheap and easy to use for basic parts. They are not as consistently air- or water-tight so their use must be inspected beforehand to ensure proper function.

M1 Masks will be able to be printed sitting flat on its face. There are no need for supports.

Recommended materials

• Antimicrobial PLA

• PETG

• Flexible TPU

The Filter band is a universal size amongst all mask sizes (small, medium, large). When printing the filter band we recommend using PLA filament and printing the first one at 100% scale and then test the fitment with the filter material on the mask. The fitment should be tight enough where the filter band can NOT be accidentally taken off, while still being able to press fit band over the filter onto the mask. The band needs to be tighter than you would think. If the filter band is too small to fit over your filter scale the print accordingly until a proper tight fitment. We recommend scaling up the filter band 1% at a time until proper fitment is achieved. The scaling feature can found in your slicing software.

Masks should be checked for layer line splits and should have as smooth of a finish as possible in order to install gaskets.

All above plastics are safe to sanitize with soap and water. 70% isopropyl alcohol is an acceptable sterilizer as well but will shorten the thermoplastic parts duty cycle.

RESIN

PRINTERS

Resin printing gives us amazing details that we can't achieve with FDM printing, however you will need to post process the print.

Most cheap machines don't have the build space to make a M1 BUT there are some newer large machines on the market that can, and their advantage is SPEED. Other printers like the Formlabs SLA printers can fit a mask as well.

What is most important with post processing is having a perfect cure for your part. We recommend cleaning your part off once it is out of the printer and running it through an ultrasonic generously until the excess resin from printing is completely removed. We use Simple Green as it is a non toxic formula and suspends resin rather than dissolving it, which is advantageous for being able to strain and reuse the fluid instead of having a solvent like IPA become saturated.

After washing, clean parts off in warm water before setting them to cure. Follow manufacturer instructions for post curing your material. If there are none, we recommend curing under HOT water (60C-80C) and a strong UV light. Cure for an hour then check on material. If there is no tackiness or smell, give a final wash and place in clean bag until you are ready to install other components.

GASKET

Once the masks are printed and inspected the gaskets can be installed. These masks take an easy-to-find gasket material that you can purchase from local hardware stores. WARNING! Gaskets MUST be installed for proper use.
